What You Need to Know: Temporary Layoff Variance Q&A
Do you have employees that are currently laid off? The “COVID-19 Emergency Layoff" period will end on August 30th. Join the Chamber for a Q&A to get your questions answered.
To extend a temporary layoff beyond that date, non-unionized employers must apply for a variance under the Employment Standards Act.
What does this mean?
• Without a variance, the employer-employee relationship is severed if the employer doesn’t recall employees on temporary layoff before August 30th
• Without a variance, eligible employees may be entitled to compensation (severance) for length of service under the Employment Standard act
Join Executive Director, Acacia Pangilinan, to discuss the initiative launched by the Provincial Government to help keep workers and employers connected through the path to recovery. This is extremely time sensitive to businesses who have current temporary layoffs, with the application deadline to apply by August 25, 2020.
