Lead By Example, And They Will Follow

Interview with:  Atish Patel - General Manager

We had the welcomed opportunity to chat with Atish Patel, General Manager at Scott’s Inn and Restaurant recently and had to share some insights from our conversation with you.

Scott’s Inn and Restaurant opened its doors over thirty years ago led by Atish’s father, Al Patel. A hardworking, community-minded man, Al focussed on teaching Atish the power of generating a team and working together toward creating common goals, incentives and rewards. Today Atish is just as involved in the day to day actions of the business and dedicated to inspiring his own team to be more than just a team, but to feel as though they are family.

It is that sense of mutual appreciation that resonates through the staff at Scott’s Inn and Restaurant towards each and every guest and in turn, has provided them with a number of positive reviews and hospitality awards. Awards in which Atish makes points of informing his staff upon and ensuring they each know their individual impacts enabled the team to achieve the end result together. Staff are rewarded with prizes when the business receives positive reviews and comments, which further motivates the team to continue to work towards their common goals and provides those willing with the opportunity to cross-train and potentially continue their career at Scott’s in a promoted role.

Creating a vision, communicating it, providing ongoing opportunities for education and training while providing constant encouragement were all traits Al instilled into Atish and into his employees that had generated a solid business foundation. Scott’s Inn & Restaurant became Chamber member back in 2011 with the hopes of being able to further promote their business and founding principles to others within the Kamloops area. Through Chamber networking events and socials, the Scott’s brand has grown in recognition and member referrals. Through attending Chamber business seminars and workshops, the business has learnt and stayed on-trend with marketing essentials.

A prominent community member since the 1980's, the Patel family focusses on enriching the lives of others around them and working together with others to achieve a greater good. In 2007, Al founded the ICCHA Wish Fund in Kamloops.  ICCHA, means “wish”. This foundation focusses on raising money to improve cardiac care and services at Royal Inland Hospital. Through their fundraising events and online donation portal, the group donates 100% of the funds raised back to the hospital annually to allow the doctors, nurses and other staff to better treat patients within our community. To date, over $600,000 has been raised and given to the hospital.

    Update (May 30, 2020)
In 2020, the group’s goal is to raise $300 000 for the state-of-the-art 3D-Ultrasound Machine for the “ICCHA/WISH” Coronary Care Unit, established in 2019 Royal Inland Hospital. The annual gala was rescheduled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Each $1000.00 donor received a Hero of the Heart Plaque and two tickets to the next scheduled gala.
