Go Directly to Kamloops, Do Not Pass Go

Kamloops, BC: Monopoly fever goes Canada wide as cities battle to earn their place on the new Monopoly Canada game board.  Hasbro is launching a nation wide vote to find our nation’s 22 favourite cities that will be included on the new MONOPOLY Canada game board.

Kamloops is on a list of 65 great cities across Canada that have been selected to vie for a spot on the new game board. Tourism Kamloops is launching its own campaign to market the vote process to as many people as possible. “The value of being on the board can not be understated in terms of brand awareness.” says Lee Morris, CEO. “The name of the game is getting your brand front of mind for travellers when they are thinking of interesting and fun places for vacations and getaways.”

Beginning January 11, 2010, MONOPOLY fans can visit www.monopolyvote.ca to cast votes for their favourite Canadian cities to help create a MONOPOLY Canada game board. Canadians are invited to cast their ballots for three of the 65 cities each day of the vote, which will be open until February 7, 2010. The city that receives the most votes will be placed on the highest rent property traditionally held by Boardwalk.

“MONOPOLY is the world’s most popular branded board game and it transcends cultural barriers,” said Michelle Sinclair, Brand Manager for MONOPOLY. “More than 750 million people have played the game since it was first introduced 75 years ago and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.”

Tourism Kamloops will be encouraging people to vote primarily through an on-line digital marketing campaign and directing them to either the monopolyvote.ca page or to a page on the TK website that will link them to the Hasbro vote site. Facebook and Twitter are perfectly suited to reach an enormous amount of people in a short period of time and these social networks will be utilized to generate interest and votes.
