Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and the Kamloops RCMP Announce Initiative

Kamloops, BC:  Stemming directly from the Kamloops Chamber’s strategic plan, Board Members of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce formed the Social Issues Task Force after it was identified that there was a need to bring further awareness to local social issues, to assist in crime prevention and to help increase public safety. Today, the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce, together with the Kamloops RCMP, are pleased to introduce this initiative.

“Today we’re launching the RCMP Alert,” says Social Issues Task Force Chair, Aleece Laird. “As a voice for Kamloops businesses, we wanted to work together with the Kamloops RCMP to develop a way for our police force to get business related alerts out to local businesses in a quick and timely manner. We’re confident that this initiative will not only help raise awareness to issues of concern happening in our community instantaneously, but will also provide a way for our Chamber members to provide information back to the RCMP.”

The RCMP Alert will provide a quick clip of information to the Chamber which will be sent out in the form of an email alert to the 750+ Chamber members. The Alert will contain information direct from the RCMP that could affect local businesses. The information will also be sent out through the Chamber’s Facebook and Twitter social media networks.

“Through this simple yet effective alert, it is our hope that we can keep our businesses in Kamloops better informed with information that could affect them. And it could be anything, from counterfeit money, scams or vandalism,” says Laird. “We want the eyes and ears of 750 businesses and their employees in every corner of the city to be open and for people to be armed with the facts and information they need to help the RCMP fight crime to make Kamloops an even safer city in which to live and do business.”

Additionally in the RCMP Alert, Chamber members will be given special E-Hotline access to two specially assigned RCMP officers who will receive emailed tips from the general public.

“Together with the Kamloops Chamber, it is our hope that we can not only get information out to the public to help us fight crime,” says Kamloops RCMP Inspector Yves Lacasse, “but we also want to encourage this great network of businesses to send us information or tips to help us keep our local businesses and residents safer. We look forward to a great working partnership with the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.”
