Fly the Chamber flag during Chamber of Commerce Week

The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 115th birthday this year and, to celebrate, Mayor and Council have declared that February 21-25, 2011 will officially be called “Chamber of Commerce Week”.

“The Kamloops Chamber is excited to participate in this provincial initiative, especially during our 115th year of service here in Kamloops,” says President Peter Aylen.

“Chamber of Commerce Week is an opportunity for Chambers across the province to demonstrate the outstanding value they provide to their communities,” states John Winter, President & CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce.  “This value comes in the form of benefits and services to stimulate local economies, direct community promotion and support and engage in an important multi-level advocacy role which benefits the entire province.  Chamber of Commerce Week recognizes and applauds this important contribution, and brings further awareness about the Chamber network’s influence and importance to members of the public and Chamber members alike.”

The week will focus on the services provided by the Kamloops Chamber.  Along with the regular monthly programs occurring that week, a bonus Social will be hosted on Wednesday night by the Plaza Heritage Hotel between 5:30 and 7:30pm.  The evening will highlight Chamber member benefits and programs.

Members who successfully refer businesses for first-time membership during Chamber of Commerce Week will receive a $100 discount off of their membership dues in 2012.

“What we really want, however, is for our members to “fly the Chamber flag” during the week and I mean that literally,” says Executive Director Deb McClelland.   Members are asked to proudly display Chamber flags which are being distributed this week.  The flags may be attached to a vehicle window, placed on a counter or in a display window.

“We’re hoping that there will be blue Chamber flags everywhere,” says Aylen.  “We want every business to be aware of us and we invite them to explore a membership with us.”
