Chamber meets to hear business concerns

Twelve Associations representing their member businesses met with the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce Tuesday at a breakfast meeting at the Coast Canadian Inn.

The annual Business Sector Roundtable, hosted by the Chamber, met to discuss issues that their members are having with any level of government.

“The resulting resolutions which are initiated at this meeting become issues that the Kamloops Chamber advocates for on behalf of our members,” stated Chamber President Rick Heney.

In March the resolutions are presented to the Kamloops Chamber membership at their annual policy session.  If adopted by the Chamber membership, these resolutions become Kamloops policy, which the Kamloops Chamber champions for three years.  Civic issues are presented to the municipal government.  Provincial issues are presented to the BC Chamber of Commerce membership at their AGM in May.  National issues are presented to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce membership at their AGM in October.  If passed at those policy sessions, the respective Chambers advocate on the Kamloops membership’s behalf.

“The local policy session in Kamloops is unique in BC and provides a larger, unified voice to government on our members’ behalf,” stated Heney.
