BC Chamber network endorses Kamloops’ business resolutions

At their Annual General Meeting in Prince George on May 29-31 members of the BC Chamber of Commerce voted to support seven policy resolutions brought forward by Kamloops chamber members.

This resounding support means that the BC Chamber will now work to advocate on the Kamloops Chamber membership’s behalf. Policies adopted will help effect change in government policy to improve conditions for business and support a healthy community both provincially and nationally.

The seven Kamloops adopted policies are:

  1. The need for a business vote in BC

Allowing business to have a greater voice in municipal elections

  1. Protecting our environment and competitive edge

Freezing the Carbon Tax at its current level

  1. Time for a review of the Clean Energy Act

Reducing BC Hydro’s rate increases for business

  1. Health Crisis – Canada needs thousands of new doctors now

Addressing the doctor shortage in BC and allowing more of our medical students to stay in Canada and return if they have studied abroad

  1. Indexing of the new GST rebate

Indexing the GST/HST rebate threshold on new housing and simplifying the application process

  1. Marketing Canada as an international destination

Allocating more dollars to promote tourist visits to our country

  1. The Locked-in Estate Trust

An important step toward solving pension reform

Kamloops showed leadership by submitting 30% of all proposed policies from across the province and by having the largest contingent in attendance.

Kamloops’ success at the BC Chamber conference this past weekend speaks to the power of the collective voice and the opportunity for members to influence government policy,” states Policy Committee Chair, Leslie Brochu.  “Kamloops’ unique and effective approach to this process was evident in the fact that we produced so many proposals to the delegation this year.”
