Record number of nominations received for 2009 Business Excellence Awards

Nominations for the 2009 Business Excellence Awards have officially closed with a record number of submissions.

“The Chamber has been inundated with emails and faxes over the past six weeks,” stated Leslie Brochu, President of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce.  “This year we received 322 nominations – far above any other year.”

The Business Excellence Awards is an annual event brought to the community by the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and TD Canada Trust Small Business Banking.  The event celebrates the Kamloops business community and highlights 15 award winners.

“We want to thank TD Canada Trust Small Business Banking for supporting the process by allowing nomination stations to be set up in each of the TD banks throughout the city,” continued Ms. Brochu.

The gala awards banquet and ceremony is scheduled for October 17th in the TRU Grand Hall.  “This is a sell-out event and is a very exciting evening.  The media are all invited to attend and everyone from the business community is there,” stated Brochu.

The timeline leading up to the gala event is as follows:

  • Early September – The Coast Canadian Inn hosts a breakfast for the Chamber’s selection committee, comprised of over 40 business leaders.  This committee deliberates over all the nominees’ information and chooses the top 3 finalists in each award category.
  • Mid September – All nominees are invited to attend a reception in their honour at Berwick on the Park, where the finalists are revealed.
  • September 17 – Chamber members vote for their favourites online @ www.kamloopschamber.ca.
  • September 17 – Gala tickets go on sale to the public.
  • October 17 – Business Excellence Awards Gala at TRU Grand Hall.
